Elon Musk announced on Twitter on Monday that accounts that have been inactive for years will be removed from the platform, his latest move to increase the social network’s activity.
The Twitter owner tweeted on his page, “We’ll be removing accounts that haven’t been active for years, so you’ll notice a drop in your follower count.”
Confusing results
Since buying the platform in late October for $44 billion, Musk has initiated major changes at Twitter.
Although many advertisers have stopped dealing with Twitter and its use, the new paid subscription formula “Twitter Blue” does not seem to make up for the losses, according to analysts.
However, the head of “Tesla” and “SpaceX” is making radical changes on Twitter, driven by the return of many of his fans to the platform.
In a poll he launched Sunday, he asked Twitter users, “We’re working hard to make the platform as fun as possible… How do you compare to six months ago?”
As a result, 46% of the 1.5 million respondents answered “best” and 38% voted for the “worst” option.
Research firm Insider Intelligence said Twitter’s revenue will drop 28% this year because “advertisers don’t trust Musk.”
In an interview with the BBC, Musk confirmed the opposite, pointing out that the company has noticed a return of advertisers and is “almost at breakeven.”
