In the early stages of the study, which involved 32 adults with type 1 diabetes, participants sat for two periods of 7 hours each.
In one of the two periods, they sat down, in the other they walked for three minutes every half hour, and their blood sugar levels were monitored continuously for 48 hours, while they ate the same food and the same amounts. Seven hours maintain the same percentage of insulin in their body.
Walking in this way reduced the level of sugar in the blood by 6.9 mmol, while the usual level was 8.2 mmol.
The authors of the study hope to conduct a larger and more comprehensive study on the same subject.
