Sharjah 24 – AFP: Jane Campion won the Best Prize at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday for the best weekend of the Hollywood awards season, setting her Oscar-winning film Dark Western “The Power of the Dog”.
He has already won awards for Best Picture and Best Director at the Champions – Los Angeles Awards, a packed weekend from the Directors Guild of Hollywood and BAFTA in the UK.
With the huge Academy Awards ceremony set to take place in Hollywood on March 27, the film’s award fee comes just days before the start of the Oscar voting on Thursday.
Addressing a star-studded audience of Venus and Serena Williams, Campion joked: “Serena and Venus are so wonderful you – though you did not play against the guys,” Campion joked.
Tennis legends cheered as Oscar-winning lead actor Will Smith added his BAFTA Best Actor success the day before for his role as father, coach and manager in “King Richard”.
Smith thanked the sisters in his acceptance speech, saying, “You just saw the secret, the scary, the hard places that went out of that court, and you did your job with a smile.”
Jessica Chastain won the Best Actress award for “The Eyes of Tommy Foy”, in which she hid under the layers of the American televangelist’s trademark heavy makeup.
Supporting acting winners Troy Kotsur of “CODA” and Ariana Dipos of “West Side Story” advanced to the Oscars as the awards multiplied.
The Critics ‘Choice Awards – selected by nearly 500 members of North America’s largest critics’ organization – hosted a luxurious red carpet and exhibition for Hollywood A-Listers in Los Angeles hosted by Dae Dix and Nicole Pierre.
On the TV page, “Heir” won Best Drama, “Dead Lasso” won the Comedy Prize relentlessly, and “May of Easttown” was selected as the best limited series.
