Brazilian singer Marilia Mentonka died Friday with her producer and assistant in a small plane crash in the state of Minas Gerais.
The crash killed producer Henrique Ribeiro and assistant Abezelle Silveira Dias Filho and the pilot and his co-pilot, according to Mentonka’s press office.
Known as the icon of the Brazilian style of folk music Certanejo, Marilia Mentonka won the 2019 Latin Grammy Award for this type of album. He posted a video of himself boarding the plane earlier on Friday on social media.
According to the G1 news website, the plane took off from the midwestern city of Goiania for Karatinga, where the 26-year-old Mentonka is scheduled to give a concert on Friday.
“Marilia Mentonca leaves a legacy of Brazilian music and culture. It will certainly not be forgotten,” said the Brazilian government’s Department of Culture.
The cause of the accident is not yet known.
