Barcelona said on Wednesday that it had lodged a complaint with local lawyers against its former president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board following an investigation into “possible irregularities”.
After he was elected the new chairman 11 months ago, John Laporte appointed a financial audit committee and appointed investigators to examine the activities of the previous council.
“The results of the in-depth investigation into the alleged misconduct of the club’s management during the previous president’s tenure will be submitted on February 1,” the club said in a statement.
The announcement includes details of the club’s complaint to the Barcelona Attorney’s Office based on the findings of the forensic investigation, “he added.
Reuters could not be reached for comment. He previously denied any wrongdoing or mismanagement.
Laporta said last August that he had paid “inappropriate amounts” of commissions to Barcelona agents in contracts struck by the club during Bartomeu’s tenure.
Bardomieu was arrested in March as part of a police investigation into allegations of mismanagement and corruption, and the Camp Nou offices were broken into.
The investigation into the “Bursa Gate” case alleges that the club contracted a company to run social media campaigns targeting prominent contemporaries and former members of the club.
