Apple plans to introduce a new version of the iPad Pro with an OLED screen in 2024. This was pointed out by analyst Ming-Ci Kuo, who on Sunday published his predictions for the new iPads on the medium platform. According to Guo, Apple will release a 10.9-inch iPad Air and a new 12.9-inch iPad Air in 2024.
The 12.9-inch version won’t get the mini-LED used by the Pro, but will have an anodized back layer. Guo says there will be M3 models of the iPad Pro next year, both of which will replace mini-LED with OLED and use the same LTEPO back layer used by the iPhone 15 Pro.
Kuo expects the regular 11th generation iPad and a new iPad mini to arrive in the second half of the year. Kuo notes that the return of workers to offices and a structural shift in how users use devices for entertainment and productivity have led to a decline in tablet demand.
iPad shipments are expected to reach 52-54 million units in 2024, a larger number than the 50 million in 2023, but still less than the 63 million iPads shipped in 2022, Guo says.
Guo’s thoughts on the iPad Pro are similar to what we heard from Bloomberg’s Apple reporter Mark Kurman in August. The tablets could also get a redesigned Magic Keyboard with a larger trackpad, making the tablet a more useful alternative to laptops, Gorman said in August. In October, Kuo suggested that the new iPads would arrive in the first quarter of 2024, and Gurman indicated that the launch would happen in March.
