Russia has restored the leadership of the war in Ukraine and appointed a new commander with experience in the war in Syria, a Western government official said in the British capital London on Saturday.
The Western official said that General Alexander Dvornikov, who had extensive experience in the war in Syria, had been appointed the new commander of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
Tavornikov recently accepted the post of commander of Russia’s southern military district, and in 2016 Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded him the title of hero for his role in the war in Syria. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Russian side regarding the change of command of action in Ukraine.
It is noteworthy that since the war on Ukraine began on February 24, Russia has not been able to capture any major Ukrainian city, such as the capital Kiev. Russia has recently focused its war on the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.
