The Kuwait Writers Association started its first “Theater House” activity, which started with the first theater program titled “An Evening Outside the Text” about drama texts and how to improve them.
The play was directed by Muhammad Jamal al-Shatti, written by Takreet al-Dawud and starring Ibrahim al-Shaqli, Ali al-Shashtari and Saad al-Awad.
The author of the play, Taqreed Al-Daoud, head of the theater house, told Reuters that the idea of establishing a theater house in the Writers’ Union dates back 15 years. He worked to implement the idea of the Writers Guild’s board of directors “returning to the embrace of the Theater Guild”.
He said that the Theater House will focus on theatrical culture and its promotion and level of textual writing, because “the dramatic text is not isolated from other literary genres.”
In a country that prides itself on its decades-long theater history, the theater house is slated to host theater performances, workshops on playwriting and other activities and events aimed at raising the bar on playwriting.
The Drama Forum wants to create an awareness of the role of the play text in more sophisticated play texts and theater movement, and emphasizes the importance of the role of the word in this context, stating that “play movement cannot develop, continue, or be documented without an actual play text.
For his part, the play’s director, Muhammad Al-Shatti, said that whether the creator is a teacher, director or actor, how he deals with it, particularly reveals a lack of appropriate skills. Weakness of the available climate of freedom than before.
Al-Shatti, a theater actor and radio director who has directed 12 plays, expressed his pride and joy that his play will be the first act of Kuwait Theater House.
The events of the play revolve around a drama group, on the one hand the author, who wants to write in special situations and on selected topics without pressure, on the other hand, the director and the actors who want to quickly get a play text that can be acted without complications or problems with politics or political parties.
