Apple released an update iOS 17 Soon after launching its latest smartphones, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to launch iOS 18 after unveiling the iPhone 16 model in September 2024.
However, the company has already started working on the upcoming iOS version, which is expected to be released in beta in June, and according to a report by MacRumors, early development codes for iOS 18 have revealed hardware details about the upcoming iPhone 16 smartphones.
iPhone 16 Series Processors: What to Expect
The upcoming platform, codenamed “Crystal,” includes hints of four yet-to-be-released iPhone models expected to make up the iPhone 16 lineup. Specified models:
D47 – iPhone 16
D48 – iPhone 16 Plus
D93 – iPhone 16 Pro
D94 – iPhone 16 Pro Max
The operating system code indicates that all iPhone 16′ models will use a new setting on the chip (t8140 – Tahiti). That's what Apple calls the A18 chip internally. The A18 chip is mentioned in relation to the base model 'iPhone 16'. and the 16 Plus (called the D4y at Apple) as well as the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max (referred to internally as the D9x).
The report says it found no evidence of the alleged “iPhone Urdla” being part of the iPhone 16 lineup.
In comparison, in the iPhone 15 line, the base model uses the older A16 chip from the iPhone 14 Pro, while the more expensive iPhone 15 Pro has the all-new A17 Pro chip. The new chip has an extra GPU core. Increased clock speed and built on a 3nm platform.
However, the iPhone 16' series is expected to have the same general chipset in both the base and Pro models, and the operating system hints at using the same t8140 chip for the entire iPhone 16' range, and the report indicates that Apple may opt for that. iPhone and the company may use the A18 and A18 Pro branding for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, respectively, to replace the chips used in different levels of the devices.
Apart from this, the OS also has hints for Broadcom Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, which are likely to come with the iPhone 16 Band.
