Promising Spanish star Carlos Algarz is still recovering from what happened after winning the Wimbledon Open tennis championship, the third major tournament (Grand Slam), in Sunday’s final against veteran Serbian star Novak Djokovic. Set for two, he revealed in an interview with the agency.Spanish News from his residence near the (All England Club) grounds in the British capital London, which witnessed the coronation of his second Grand Slam title in his career.
The 20-year-old, in his conversation, talked about the feelings he, his family, and those close to him experienced after winning the title, but the talk was about the future and what awaits him. What is to come.
What’s the difference between winning the US Open last year and Wimbledon this year?
Winning Wimbledon is a little more special, given the way it was done, knocking off a player of Djokovic’s stature, who has been undefeated on this center court for 10 years, in the citadel of tennis. Being a part of the history of this tournament is even more special.
Do you feel like yesterday you started a new phase in this game?
Actually, it’s not like that. I believe there will be no generational change, no new era as long as the battle between Rafael Nadal and Djokovic continues on the courts, competing for titles and major achievements. . We can talk about this debate in the years to come, but not now.
How does Algaraz see himself in ten years, seeing you grow so well on the lawn?
I don’t think it will change on a personal level. One of us matures over the years, and by growing and gaining experiences, your perspective on things is different, what is most important, and I am improving in this aspect, but the personality and the person must be. I am now and there will be no change. I think that I am a very close, loving, very happy young man, and for me these aspects do not change with time.
At the Dinner of Champions speech, you said, “Now I go to Murcia and become a normal person.”
Yes definitely. I am a very simple person, I always seek peace at home with my family and friends and even go to the park. Be casual no matter the location. If the company is the right company, always keep calm with your friends, laugh and tell jokes with them. We joke about everything. This is enough to feel like a normal person in your 20s.
You said that was the happiest moment in your life, but we have to wait and see what happens in the coming years.. What will be happier than that in the next five or ten years?
To look through my trophy cabinet and see five Wimbledons, four US Opens, three Roland Garros and four Australian Opens… I don’t think anything could make me happier. To have more Grand Slams in my locker, more titles like the number one seed and life moments like this.”
Do multiple matches taste better than the first match?
The taste of the first match is always special and now we try more and always get this feeling. Increasing the number of matches in the prize pool is a good thing.
Djokovic says you’re a combination of three tennis players who have dominated the courts in recent years, but what’s lacking in your game and what can you improve?
I miss it so much. Never be perfect, never reach 100%, and there will always be new things that you need to improve and adapt to the circumstances every moment. I hope to improve in everything I do.
Would you replace your picture with Federer in your room with another picture from yesterday’s final?
No, I won’t replace it, but I can put it next to it. The photo with Federer is a special memory that I will keep for a very long time, if not the rest of my life.
What was going through your head on Djokovic’s final forehand into the net?
To be honest, it was a moment of shock and my mind went blank. I felt like throwing myself on the floor and I thought of hugging my team and celebrating with my family.
How much does a great competitor need to grow and grow and earn more? Like double Nadal for Federer and Djokovic for Nadal.
They are very. Keeping someone out, fighting with him, fighting with him, that sweet rivalry is key to maintaining motivation in the long run. I think I have it now, and I’m not afraid to say it: I have a signer (referring to the Italian Yannick signer) at the moment. That beautiful rivalry that we have, those big games that we’ve played. As the years go by, there will be better players and we will fight for bigger titles.
