World number two Algaraz, who is making his first appearance in the tournament, will face world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the fourth round.
On the other hand, in the second semi-final, Medvedev will face Italian Janic Sinner, winner of his three matches in the group stage.
Al-Kharras avenged last September’s Flushing Meadows semi-final loss to Medvedev, with the Russian playing in the tournament and knowing he was guaranteed qualification from Wednesday.
Al-Kharras said, “I am very happy to reach the semi-finals in my first participation in this tournament. It was very difficult to compete against a rival who always has a difficult competition.”
Al Karaz enters the tournament suffering from back and leg injuries, noting his debut loss to Germany’s Alexander Zverev. He had two wins over Russian Andrey Rublev and his compatriot Medvedev, setting up a close matchup with Djokovic.
He defeated Djokovic in the Wimbledon final last July to win his second major Grand Slam title before the Serb avenged him in a thrilling final in Cincinnati, USA on August 20.
Al Karaz succeeded in breaking her opponent’s serve in the seventh game and held her advantage on serve, winning the first set in 39 minutes.
The Spaniard then repeated the same scenario in the second set, specifically in the ninth game, to decide the match in his favour.
