Today, Emirati International Referee Jaber Al Zaabi begins his career officiating the Men’s and Women’s Arab Championships in Cairo, his 61st stop in officiating the World Championships, a record for karate in the country.
The delegation of the team left for the competition held yesterday under the leadership of the Assistant Secretary General of the Emirates Karate Federation, Dr. Abdullah Saif Al-Badi. It includes Marwan Al-Masmi, Yusuf Faraiduni and six players. (-50 kg) and (-68 kg) women’s singles (Kumeti), with two players, Abdul-Ghani Muhammad, of (Gatta), and Ahmad Salem Basalib of Kumi, Hawra Al-Ajmi and Fatima Salem Ghaseeb. Apart from Jaber Al-Jaabi, the coaching staff for the men’s and women’s teams consists of Waheed Hosseini, Nader Beji, Nasser Hosseini and Dorke Yasil.
Al-Zabi told “Emirates Today”, “Emirati people are not alien to the trust of Arab and international federations, and representing the Arab Championships in Cairo is the 61st stop in my career in managing world championships. Confirming the status that Emirati karate enjoys on the international stage. The latest of which, this 17th, I was invited by the International Federation to officiate at the World Games in Birmingham, USA as the first Emirati referee to officiate the Games.In terms of strength for the Olympic Games, I had the honor of reaching the 60th championship in just 12 years of my career.
He explained, “My successes at the World Games were the backdrop to renewed confidence from the International Federation to join the other seven referees and host the Islamic Unity Games in Turkey next month.”
In addition to being an international referee, Al-Jaabi is the Chairman of the Referees Committee at the UAE Confederation and a member of the Referees Committee at the Asian Confederation, in a career marked by many achievements as a player or referee.
He continued, “We have a distinguished number of international referees, namely Abdullah Issa, Muhammad Al Rahma and Aqeel Al-Awadi, in addition to Amna Al Dashti, the first Emirati female referee to succeed in officiating at the World Championships in Dubai in November last year.”
