Saudi club Al-Hilal are continuing to sign Belgium international striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in the summer Mercado 2023, in light of Inter Milan officials failing to meet Chelsea’s financial aspirations in the player’s final sale.
The Belgian striker returned to Chelsea at the start of July after completing his loan spell with Inter Milan, where they qualified for the Champions League final and won the Coppa Italia title last season.
The 30-year-old has been in serious talks with Chelsea management to discuss the idea of returning to Inter Milan on loan this summer, with an option to buy in the summer of 2024 for €30m.
However, the Italian’s proposal was rejected by Chelsea’s management, which confirmed its desire to sell permanently this summer for €45 million, to achieve financial benefits and offset the club’s losses by not running for any continental competition next season.
Sources revealed London Evening Standard website The management of the Saudi Al-Hilal club attempted to sign Lukaku this month after the club failed in their first attempt last month.
Sources from the same site explained, “Al Hilal are still hoping to persuade Saudi Arabia to offer Lukaku. Italian Inter have already failed to offer €45 million for the Belgium international in recent days.”
And the same source insisted, “Al-Hilal will not give up hope of persuading Lukaku to move to the Middle East, despite wanting to continue his career in European stadiums for a new season.”
Lukaku scored 10 goals in 25 Italian league games last season, missing several matches due to injury or lack of physical and technical readiness.
