Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan returned to his country after a visit to Juba (South Sudan’s capital), while the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohammed Hamdan Tagalo (Hemeti), attacked him in a new audio recording. He accused him of breaking his promise and starting the war.

The Sovereignty Council announced that al-Burhan had arrived in a Sudanese port on the Red Sea on Monday after holding talks with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayrdid, and that they “recognized the efforts of the countries of the region – particularly the state of South Sudan – to address the crisis in Sudan.” Source says.

Martin Elia Lomuro, South Sudan’s minister of government affairs, said “President Kiir is the only person who knows about Sudan and can solve the Sudan crisis.”

Ali al-Sadiq, appointed as Sudan’s foreign minister, believed that the state of South Sudan was the most suitable country to mediate on the Sudanese crisis.

This is al-Burhan’s second foreign trip since clashes broke out between the army and Rapid Support Forces on April 15.

Al-Burhan visited Egypt on August 29, where he met with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in the city of El Alamein.

Al-Burhan’s two foreign trips come in light of reports of mediation talks between him and Hemeti outside the country in an attempt to resolve the conflict.

Hemety speaks

For his part, Hemeti spoke in a new audio recording of discussions between himself and al-Burhan before the conflict erupted, insisting that it was the military commander who started the war, not the rapid support forces.

Hemeti said, “O Burhan, fear God, my brother. You attacked us with foreign planes,” He did not specify which country, but he pointed out that members of the Egyptian Air Force – Burhan’s close allies – were at the Merov air base. (Northern Sudan).

Hemeti al-Burhan accused the former regime of trying to restore power, committed war crimes and accused the Rapid Support Forces.

Meanwhile, Sudan’s Foreign Ministry condemned the meeting between the head of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, and a representative of the Rapid Support Forces in Addis Ababa.

He confirmed that the Sudan Embassy in Addis Ababa will hold a meeting with the Chairman of the Union Commission to protest the move and find out the reasons behind it.
