Launched a Jordan-based digital “Knowledge” database (e-Marefa) – “Knowledge” observatory to measure Arab scientific production. It is a comprehensive scientific laboratory that provides scientific indicators to measure Arab scientific production and publication of scientific and research periodicals or journals published by Arab countries.
Founder of “Marefa” database and general supervisor of the project, Dr. Sami Al-Kazender, “Marefa” laboratory offers its users the opportunity to obtain reliable scientific data through a digital platform, which contributes. Study and analysis of the reality, problems and trends of scientific research and publication in Arab countries or at the national level.
The laboratory will serve as a scientific reference and resource for Arab and international organizations related to studies and researches and Arab scientific production and its measurement.
A pioneering and unique science project
It is a pioneering and unique scientific project in the Arab world, and its data has been collected for more than 15 years (starting in 2008) and covers scientific production data and its source from 1970 to 2022, say the lab’s curators. More than 1,400 scientific and research organizations and publications from the University and many more, from various Arab countries.
“Marsat Marifa is a new Jordanian contribution to the development of the Arab scientific scene,” asserts Dr. Al-Kassender.
The laboratory has two types of indicators, the first: indicators of scientific and research periodicals (journals), which are concerned with measuring the volume and trends of scientific production and publication through descriptive (biological) data for more than 4,600 scientific or research journals. in Arabic, English or French, and in various fields in the Arab world.
The number of key indicators for this category are six key indicators that display scientific production data, namely: geographic distribution, substantive distribution (adult), linguistic distribution, publishers, and temporal coverage. These six core indicators are followed by 35 sub-indicators. The observatory provides various types of relationships between primary and secondary indicators.
As for the second category, they are indicators of scientific articles, which are concerned with measuring the amount and trends of scientific content or production through scientific and research journals published in Arab countries and articles published in Arabic in various fields.
These indicators include approximately 500,000 articles published in Arabic and in full text. The number of main indicators for this category is 5 main indicators that show scientific production data, namely: geographical distribution, substantive distribution (majors), publishers and temporal coverage, in addition to general indicators. These five key indicators are followed by 16 sub-sectors. – Indicators.
The data or results of these indicators are presented through graphic forms and tables, and the user can download and use the data from these tables.
Features and Benefits of Lab
The laboratory provides a wide range of reports, including reports measuring the performance of universities, scientific organizations and research centers in the field of scientific production and publishing, as well as reports on the volume and trends of scientific publication in periodicals in each Arab country. And at the level of all Arab countries.
In addition to data analysis to identify problems and the development of Arab scientific production in theoretical and applied fields. and other reports, and the Observatory provides its data and reports through an advanced digital platform.
This laboratory is expected to be useful for various scientific research and publication organizations, educational and scientific institutions, planning, financing, research management, scientific publication and innovation, researchers, experts, university professors and organizations. and centers for research, information, consultancy and knowledge economy.
The “Marefa” laboratory is characterized by several characteristics, including the volume and modernity of the data, and the data cover a wide period of more than 50 years. Its data consists of specific sources or it is in a “knowledge” database. , and work has been done to monitor, collect and review it.
The launch of the “Marefa” laboratory complements several initiatives initiated by the “Maarefa” database to enrich and improve the scientific content published in Arabic, including the Arabic influence and citation factor “Arcif”, the originality, the “Kashif” system for checking consistency. or plagiarism in scientific products published in Arabic, databases which include approximately 650,000 scientific articles, rules of university theses and more than 33,000 doctoral and master theses, as well as tens of thousands of books, statistical reports and Arabic reviews of international theses. .
