Buckingham Palace has announced that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth will not attend the Memorial Service on Sunday.
His Majesty is disappointed that he will miss the ceremony, the palace said in a statement.
If the 95-year-old had attended the ceremony, it would have been his first public appearance since he was advised to rest after a night in hospital last month.
The news that the Queen did not attend the ceremony in central London, an occasion she considers one of her most important engagements throughout the year, raises fears about her health after disappearing from public life for so long in memory.
A source in the palace said the queen’s back sprain had nothing to do with unspecified fatigue.
The evidence added that this was an incredibly unfortunate coincidence.
The Queen, the world’s oldest and most seated monarch, has missed events such as the COP26 climate change conference and a festival to commemorate war dead on Saturday night since she was admitted to hospital for “initial tests”.
The source said the queen hopes to continue her schedule of lighter official engagements scheduled for next week.
