A 30-year-old man jumps off a passenger plane at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, USA, on Saturday.
Despite the incident, Southwest Airlines Flight 4236 made a safe landing from Colorado Springs to Phoenix, Southwest Airlines said in a statement.
“When the plane landed near the gate, initial reports indicate that the customer on the plane exited through the back door,” said Southwest Airlines spokesman Dan Landson. The captain stops the aircraft and reports it to the Air Traffic Control (ATC), and it is unclear how the door of the aircraft was opened.
Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Todd Keeler said in a statement that the Phoenix Fire Station, located at the airport, reported the incident at about 8 p.m.
Keeler said the man got down in the dorm and went to the fire station, entered the building and locked himself in a bedroom.
“After a few minutes, firefighters persuaded the adult man to open the door, where he was evaluated, treated and taken to a local hospital for a lower limb injury,” the fire chief explained.
Southwest Airlines officials responded to the incident, after which the plane proceeded to “its designated gate”.
A Phoenix police spokesman told CNN that “they are aware of the incident and are investigating.”
It is unclear whether the person will face any charges.
