He was allegedly crushed by a man Robot The death in South Korea, according to a report by Yonhap News Agency, was caused by the machine failing to distinguish between it and the boxes of goods it was handling.
The man, identified as a robotics company employee in his 40s, worked at an agricultural produce distribution center in South Gyeongsang Province.
An industrial robot lifts boxes full of sweet peppers and places them on a plate. The robot apparently malfunctions and recognizes the man as a box of vegetables.
According to the report, the robot arm confused it with the box of vegetables it was supposed to handle and caught it on the conveyor belt.
According to the report, the robotic arm pushed the man’s upper body down toward the conveyor belt, crushing his face and chest.
According to the report, the man was checking the robot’s sensor before conducting the test at the pepper sorting plant.
He is said to have been called to check the robot’s sensor problems that were noticed two days ago.
He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the report said.
In a statement, an official from Dongchuan Agricultural Export Complex, which owns the factory, called for the installation of a “precise and secure” system, Yonhap reported.
This is the second such case to be reported in South Korea this year. In March, a 50-year-old South Korean man was seriously injured by a robot while working at an auto parts factory.
