The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate launched the second Master Plan for Urban Development for Central and South AlUla, aimed at improving living standards and stimulating economic growth and urban development within the framework of comprehensive sustainable development set out in the “AlUla Vision”. In line with Saudi Vision 2030, making the city a unique place of stability and work.
Extensive urban development
The Commission announced the strategic direction of the program bearing the slogan “Towards a Prosperous Society” and aimed at urban development, urban development and development of residential land uses, improving services and facilities, achieving public health goals, improving sustainable mobility experience and others.

Improving quality of life
The Master Plan “Towards a Prosperous Community” is a comprehensive development plan focused on improving the quality of life of the people and residents of AlUla. Completing the comprehensive development process
The second master plan represents a roadmap for the development of the central and southern parts of AlUla, which will complete a comprehensive development phase announced in 2021, introducing a design vision of “a journey through time”. and the restoration of the main archaeological site at Al-Ula. Both projects aim to make the city a leading global destination for art, heritage, culture and nature, and a great place to live and work.
The project includes the provision of elements of activities aimed at improving the infrastructure and built environment and raising the quality of services provided, as well as raising the quality of health services, raising the quality of recreational activities and improving comprehensive sustainability in residential areas. As well as providing various facilities, as well as several transport routes, with the coordination of “Wadi Al-Qura” with the neighboring areas of the governorate.
Environmental and social friendly project
The “Towards a Prosperous Society” plan is based on achieving economic development, taking care of cultural and natural heritage, “humanizing the city” and providing an urban experience with its life services in various neighborhoods and locations. The second phase of the basic plan is based on the foundation of the Al Ullah Sustainability Charter, which aims to implement a circular carbon economy and achieve full carbon neutrality in Al Ullah Governorate.
The project will create innovative infrastructure that will provide the necessities of life in neighborhoods characterized by urban style and integrated services. It will create a harmonious environment that connects people with nature and build on the ancient heritage of the governorate. It will also provide neighborhoods with many key services and amenities such as green spaces, playgrounds and parks.
It is worth noting that Al-Ula has many historical and social benefits, as it contains many historical monuments dating back more than 200 thousand years, and it contains the ancient Nabatean city of “Al-Hijr”. Considered Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient capitals of two kingdoms include the ancient sites of Lihyan and Dadan in addition to the “Old AlUla” considered a resting place for pilgrims since 1100 AD.
The launch of the project Towards a Prosperous Community is a continuation of the comprehensive development journey in AlUla and a confirmation of the Authority’s commitment to the development of neighborhoods and residential communities in South and Central AlUla.
