Asia-Pacific Group Supports UAE Request to Hold State Parties COP28 Conference 2023

The member states of the Asia-Pacific region today announced their support for the United Arab Emirates’ request to host the twenty-eighth session of the State Conference of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) to be held in 2023. .
This took place during the conference in Glasgow, which witnessed the eminent participation of many countries of the world during which there were mechanisms to expedite the implementation of the goals of the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC). Discussed.
HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Saeed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Chairman of the United Arab Emirates Group for COP26, said: “We extend our deepest thanks to the member states of the Asia-Pacific Group and to all our partners for the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to host the COP in 2023. The community is making efforts to tackle ‘COP28’ and the effects of climate change.
Based on this belief and in line with the UAE’s 30-year record of climate action recently announced in the United Arab Emirates Strategic Initiative to Follow Climate Neutrality 2050, our focus will be on finding new technologies and solutions to complete partnerships. To create a more sustainable future for the children of the present and future generations, for the daughters of the United Arab Emirates and for humanity around the world.

Thirty years of climate action.
For more than three decades, the United Arab Emirates has shown great interest in the issue of climate change and has shown a firm commitment to investment projects aimed at creating a positive economic impact on the Emirati community and mitigating its effects.
Emerging from its key role in the region, the United Arab Emirates is now calling for more drastic action. Last October, it launched its ambitious strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
In addition, the UAE is keen to support the international community and find practical ways to improve climate action. It also calls for an in-depth analysis of future risks associated with climate change and the adoption of the concept of “performance measure” to maximize the use of available resources to mitigate the effects of climate change.
On this occasion, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change in the United Arab Emirates, said: “The United Arab Emirates is focused on finding a collaborative approach in line with the vision of intelligent leadership. Practical solutions to various challenges We are pleased to receive the support of the Asia-Pacific Group to host COP28, which is particularly important as it will see the first assessment of national obligations after the Paris Agreement. Invest in clean energy projects.
The use of renewable energy is the cornerstone of the United Arab Emirates’ strategy to reduce carbon emissions and prevent the ill effects of global warming. These initiatives include solar energy projects, carbon capture, utilization and storage, and hydrogen as a clean fuel. In recent years, the United Arab Emirates has invested nearly $ 17 billion in clean energy projects in 70 countries, with a special focus on developing countries.
In 2021, the leaders attended the Climate Summit as the United Arab Emirates hosted a regional climate change dialogue and strengthened its commitment to sustainable agriculture. As food systems are responsible for a quarter of global carbon emissions, the UAE, along with 39 other countries, has launched an “agro-climate innovation initiative”.
The United Arab Emirates has three of the largest and most cost-effective solar power plants in the world. He was a pioneer in initiating important climate initiatives, including setting goals to conserve biodiversity, implementing carbon capture technology on a commercial scale, operating a zero-emission nuclear power plant, and exploring hydrogen energy.
Comprehensive Approach to Climate Action United Arab Emirates Minister for Climate Change and Environment Mariam Bint Mohammed Al Muhairi stressed the importance of strengthening the United Arab Emirates’ excellent record in climate action: “The country seeks to contribute to this. Also, in 2015, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) opened its permanent official headquarters in Muster, Abu Dhabi, a low-carbon urban project that embraces innovative solutions in energy and water efficiency, mobility and waste reduction.
