Cairo – The film “Feathers”, directed by Egypt’s young director Omar al-Zuhairi, won the award for Best Arab Film at the El Ghouna Festival, which concluded on Friday evening.
The two-award-winning film from the Cannes Film Festival was criticized by television shows and by some artists and critics for insulting the image of Egypt due to the poverty that is at the center of family events. The festival was extended and there was a demand for a media boycott.
The Golden Star for Best Picture at the festival received the “Titanic Blind Man” from Finland, the Silver Star for “Sunset” from Mexico and the Bronze Star for the Russian film “Sergeant Volkonokovs Escape”.
The Best Actor award went to Petri Pogolinen for her role in “The Blind Man Who Wants to See the Titanic”, while Maya Vanderbeek won the Best Actress Award for her role in “Playground” from Belgium.
In the feature-length documentary competition, the film “Ivana’s Life” from Russia won the gold star, the silver star went from Switzerland to “Astro-Lost Island”, and the bronze star went to the film “Sabaya” from Sweden. “Zadari Captains” directed by Egyptian director Ali Elarabi won the Best Arabic Documentary Award at the festival.
In the short film competition which included 23 films, “Katiya” from Russia won the gold star, the silver star for the movie “The Holy Sun” from Italy and the bronze star for the movie “On Solid Road”. Switzerland.
As for the award for best short film in Arabic, it went to “Cairo – Berlin” written by young director Ahmed Abdel Salam.
The Lebanese film “Costa Brava, Lebanon” won two prizes from the International Critics’ Federation for Best First Work and the Green El Gauna star for Best Picture for Conserving the Environment and Wildlife.
The award was given to the Russian film “Astrove – A Lost Island” directed by Svetlana Rodina and Laurent Stop with the slogan “Cinema for Humanity”.
