U.S. police raid a Russian-owned mansion near Putin

The U.S. Federal Police (FBI) on Tuesday raided a mansion in Washington owned by Oleg Deribaska, a Russian oligarch close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a statement, the FBI said it had conducted a search of a luxury mansion in the highlands of the capital to carry out “court-approved police action.”
An FBI spokesman said: “We have no further information at this time.
In 2018, the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on Deribaska, based on an investigation into money laundering and extortion.
At the time, the Treasury Department said Teripaska was “suspected of bribing a government official, ordering the assassination of a businessman and having links to the Russian Mafia.”
But in March 2019, Deribaska was accused of illegally targeting the treasury, which failed this year when a federal judge dismissed the case.
In his case, the Russian oligarchy said his assets had fallen by $ 7.5 billion since sanctions were imposed on him and six other Russian oligarchs.
He said his stake in the giant Russian aluminum company “Russell” had dwindled and he was forced to shift his interests to third parties in order to avoid a setback for the group and its subsidiary “EN +” and other companies.
Following the decision to reduce its stake in Deribaska’s capital, the Treasury Department lifted the ban on Russell and two other companies. But it had punishments for him, which prevented others from associating with him.
Deribaska’s name is frequently mentioned in the inquiry into Moscow’s involvement in Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. According to documents, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manford shared confidential information with the Russian oligarchy and Russian intelligence agent Konstantin Klimnik.
