The French newspaper “France Football” revealed some amazing facts, including a list of candidates for the Ballon d’Or 2021, which includes 30 players. We will continue to review them with you at this point.

After the award was canceled last year due to a corona virus infection, Golden Ball returned with a new list of 30 players, compared to the 2019 edition which included 21 players.

Of the 30 Ballon d’Or nominees this year, only Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, De Bruyne, Lewandowski, Mahres, Mbabane, Messi, Salah and Sterling were shortlisted for 2019.

Historically, the Golden Ball has supported the award attackers, and this year’s edition did not deviate from the norm because 15 strikers were nominated, out of the 30 players on the list. But despite the Italian national team winning the Euro 2020 championship, not one of them is an Italian striker.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, the best player in Euro 2020, is the only goalkeeper nominated for the Golden Balls, while there are only 5 defenders on the list.

The 30 candidates for this year’s Golden Ball are distributed as follows: 1 goalkeeper, 5 defenders, 9 midfielders and 15 strikers.

The list of candidates for the Golden Ball is dominated by the English Premier League, with 14 players from the tournament, 5 players from the League, 5 players from the Italian League, 4 players from the French League and two players from the German League.
