Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Indonesia will reopen the island of Bali to some international travelers, including China, New Zealand and Japan, Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Banjitan said on Monday, October 4. Others, as of October 14th.
Banjitan told reporters that Enkura Roy International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, Bali, will open its doors to foreign tourists from that day onwards, requiring visitors to self-isolate for eight days at their own expense.
He explained that the reopening of the country and the easing of social restrictions were taking place in stages because Indonesia “did not want the unexpected to happen.”
Indonesia is one of the most affected countries by the corona virus in Asia, with more than 4 million cases and 142,000 deaths officially recorded, although public health experts believe the actual number is much higher.
However, daily cases dropped from more than 56,000 at the height of the second wave in mid-July this year to 1,100 on October 3rd.
Health Minister Pudi Kundi has announced the reopening of the popular tourist resort of Chad, where foreign tourists can return after more than 70% of Bali’s population receives at least one dose of the corona virus vaccine.
The government is ready to reopen the island for international tourists to help revive Bali’s battered economy.
Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia, emerged from its first recession in more than two decades in the second quarter, although the resurgence of the corona virus and social restrictions accelerated the recovery.
