German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday sought to overcome the impatience of flood victims, reassuring them during a visit to the western part of the country in an effort to improve the status of the country’s conservative relief camp. Before the legislative election, the results appear to be uncertain.

About two months after the disaster, the Chancellor returned to the western city of Aldenahar to assess the progress of the cleanup and restoration work.

In the city in the Rhineland-Palatinate state, only eight of the more than 600 residential homes were there before the flood.

“On the one hand, I was relieved to see a significant difference (compared to the first visit in July),” Merkel told a news conference. But on the other hand, today I saw myself working again and doing the necessary cleaning.

“It is our duty to help in all possible ways,” he added, adding that the government and local authorities had approved the 30 30 billion reconstruction plan. “If $ 30 billion is not enough, the next federal government and all regional governments will say they have a lot more to do, and people should not be afraid,” he said, adding that frustration had increased as aid was slowly coming.

The historic floods of July 14 and 15 killed more than 180 people in the region and the neighboring northern Rhine-Westphalia, according to a scientific report released in late August.

On Sunday, Merkel will make a very political visit to North Rhine-Westphalia, the head of Germany’s largest state, along with Conservative camp candidate and Christian Democratic Union leader Armin Laschett in the September 26 election.
