In 1968, US presidential candidate Robert F. California jail authorities say parole team has decided to release Palestinian refugee Sarhan Sirhan, convicted of killing Kennedy.
Thereafter, the decision to release Sarhan, 77, was submitted to the committee’s legal committee, which has 120 days to decide. The law allows the governor 30 days to allow it to be implemented or repealed.
Born in Palestine, Sarhan is serving a life sentence for the June 5, 1968 shooting death of 42 – year – old Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. He won the primary in the state and died the next day.
Sarhan said he did not remember the assassination, although he said he shot Kennedy in anger for supporting Israel.
Los Angeles Times, Two family members of the slain senator, his son Robert F. News broke that a parole group, including Kennedy Jr., had been sent in support of Sarhan’s release.
Sarhan’s lawyer, Angela Perry, told the newspaper that her client had not been severely abused in prison and that prison officials believed she posed a minor risk. The panel could not comment on officials or the lawyer.
Sarhan, who is in prison in San Diego, has been denied parole 15 times before.
