Swiss President Gianni Infondino has called on the English and Spanish leagues and national federations to “show solidarity” on the issue of releasing international soldiers, and the following September, at the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, he sent a letter to the British Prime Minister.

“Many of the best players in the world compete in the English and Spanish leagues, and we believe that these two countries have a responsibility to maintain and preserve the sporting integrity of competitions around the world.”
The Swiss-Italian revealed that he had contacted British authorities after England relaxed epidemic controls during the European Cup last June and July.
