Google has unveiled a new update to the Google Assistant system on car screens, ending the era of Android Auto, known as a way to access your phone through the car dashboard. This allows you to easily access Google Maps, Music Apps and Data without having to use your phone. But for years, Google has been providing the Android Auto experience directly on the phone, for people who do not have a compatible console.

Most recently, Google also worked on assistant driver mode, which arrived earlier this year after some delays.

Now that the Google Assistant processor is finished driving, the company will stop offering the old Android Auto experience on phones running Android 12.

9to5 Google report shared by Google and viewed by Al Arabiya.net confirms this plan. “The Google Assistant Driving System is the next evolution of the mobile driving experience,” the company said.

He added, “For people who use Android Auto, this experience will not disappear in supported vehicles, but for those who use the Android Auto Mobile App experience, they will be introduced to the driving system, starting with the Android 12 operating system, and Google Assistant’s driving is an integrated mobile driving experience.

Prior to Google confirming this change, some Pixel owners using Android 12 received a notification when trying to run the Android Auto processor on their phones, which stated that Android Auto was now “only available for car screens”, instead suggesting the Google Assistant driver experience.

And the new Google Assistant experience is clearly going to focus on the future, and for most people switching will not be a big deal. But if you have not upgraded your phone to Android 12, at least for now you can continue to run Android Auto.
