A severe storm hit Argentina and Uruguay yesterday morning, killing at least 16 people and causing widespread damage to infrastructure.
In Argentina, video clips taken from Aeropark Newberry Airport in Buenos Aires showed the storm’s damage and destruction to the plane and its passengers on the airport apron, as the plane began to move off the ground due to the wind. This caused her to fall to the ground on her side.
Footage was also seen of the plane’s wing hitting a building in the square, causing obvious damage.
The 17-year-old plane sustained damage to LV-CAD and its next scheduled flight to Governor Mendoza Francisco Gabrielli International Airport was canceled on Sunday morning while it was grounded for repairs.
Airlines Argentina said in a statement: “The strong storm canceled more than 100 flights in Argentina, and downed trees and lampposts across the country.”
Argentina’s Meteorological Center reported gusts of up to 100 miles per hour in some areas.
