When German trophy holders Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Brad Holland will face off in the Super Cup on Tuesday, German champion Bayern Munich of the past nine seasons are hoping to be his next victim.
The Bavarian club, under the supervision of its new coach Julian Knucklesmann, took over from Manchester United in place of Hansi Flick, betting to win “Bundesliga” for the tenth time in a row. The campaign started last week with a 1-1 draw against Portugal Manchengladbach.
In contrast to the stumbled Bayern, Dortmund beat its host Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 under his star Holland, who scored five goals and crossed 3 decisive balls, with its captain Marco Reus, Belgium’s Torgen Hazar and American Giovanni Reina.
Holland’s doubles match in the league broke a hat-trick record against Wisden at the German Cup last week, raising his tally to five goals in two games at the start of the new season.
The striker, Al Tahira, who turned 21 last month, raised his score to 62 in 61 matches in the “black and yellow” shirt.
Dortmund’s new coach, Marco Rose, praised his striker: “The stability he brings on the field is amazing. We’m happy he’s here because others have to think about how to stop him.”
Former international midfielder and star Lothar Mathes “Holland is a machine, he believes he has that charm. For this reason, Dortmund is one of the leading candidates to compete with Bayern for the title.
Love
The German press fell in love with Holland, and the best-selling newspaper Bild described him as “a player who would throw even Dortmund fans out of their seats”.
