Abu Dhabi “Golf World Cup” opens doors of glory to stars

Starting today, for two weeks, the Abu Dhabi Golf Club will host the world’s strongest golf tournament, the 33rd Eisenhower Cup World Championship for Men, the first ever to be held in the Middle East.
The Golf Federation, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and event partner Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, will host two world championships for amateur teams starting October 18, the “Eisenhower Cup”. From the 21st, the Women’s World Championship “Espirito Santo Cup” will be held next week, from 25 to 28 October.
Teams from 36 countries around the world compete in this prestigious event, and Italy is aiming to become the first team to successfully defend its title at the World Championships since the United States did so in 2012 and 2014. Back with a strong USA team… Nick Dunlop, David Ford and Gordon Sargent were all named in the 2023 Walker America’s Cup squad that defeated Great Britain and Ireland at the old stadium in St Andrews last month.
Dunlap won the 123rd US Open at Cherry Hills Country Club last August, joining Tiger Woods as the only men to win the US Junior and Amateur titles. As for Sargent, he was one of the top players at the 2023 US Amateur Championship at Los Angeles Country Club and was named the world’s top amateur by Mark H. Awarded the McCormack Medal of Honor.
However, the world’s top-ranked amateur will compete in the two-year tournament, South Africa’s Christo Lambrecht, who won the 2023 Amateur Championship at Hillside and was the top amateur at the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. year.
He will join his compatriots Alden van der Merwe and Christian Maas in Abu Dhabi, who finished second in the 2023 Western Amateur Championship and won the 2022 England Stroke Open (Brabasone Cup) by five strokes from runner-up. He is the sixth South African to win the title.
Ahmed Suqaiq will lead the Emirati team in their fourth consecutive appearance at the World Amateur Team Championship with the Emirates.
Sakiq, the UAE’s top amateur golfer, has participated three times in the Abu Dhabi Championship on the previous DB World Tour at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, and is a three-time President’s Cup champion.
Ryan Ahmed and Thomas Nesbitt completed the Emirati trio by winning the Abu Dhabi Golf Club Championship twice.
Major General Pilot “M” Abdullah Al Hashemi, Vice President of the Golf Federation said, “The tournament’s international organizing committee, together with the local organizing committee, have made tireless efforts over the past 12 months. We are fully prepared to become the first country in the Middle East to host the prestigious World Championship.” For the amateur teams, and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Golf Association, the Golf Association looks forward to hosting the world’s best amateur golfers in Abu Dhabi and the Emirates over the next two weeks at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

The tournament will start at 6:30 Abu Dhabi time, where UAE national team captain Sakic will join Marcus Luma of Finland and David M from Zimbabwe on the tenth hole, Juan Ricardo Davia (Guatemala) and Bastian Amat (France) / Callum Scott (Scotland) on the tenth hole.
