Japanese director Hamaguchi won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival

VENICE – (GG Press) – Japanese director Hamaguchi Ryosuke’s film “Evil Does Not Exist,” which won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the 80th Venice Film Festival, won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for “Drive My Car.” International in competitive category. The winners of each category were announced on Saturday, the final day of the festival.

In the past, Japanese director Akira Kurosawa has won three major international film festivals and an Academy Award.

Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Pour Creatures” won the Golden Lion for Best Film.

Hamaguchi tells the story of a village located in a rich natural environment. Its residents face a plan to build a camp site and amenities related to catering to the needs of tourists. Ultimately, the villagers knew that the project would harm the water supply and the local ecosystem.

Notably, the director won major awards at Berlin International Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival. In addition to the current Venice Prize, the director has won awards at three major international film festivals.
