ABU DHABI, 28 August / WAM / Red Bull Formula 1 Racing Team President Christian Horner has confirmed that he does not expect any driver to repeat the record for the number of consecutive races won in the Formula 1 World Championship, but Dutchman Max Verstappen has achieved this great feat. And this historical figure.
Horner pointed out that achieving the feat twice by two drivers for the same team was unthinkable in years past, but it has already been achieved and the record is now a candidate for improvement.
Verstappen won the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday as Formula 1 World Championship (Grand Prix) action resumed after a 4-week summer break.
Verstappen equaled this with a historic record in the championship by achieving his ninth consecutive victory in Formula 1 races, the number achieved by German Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull in 2013.
And Vettel said 10 years ago: It’s one of those records that you think will never be broken, and it’s hard to find the right words to express it.
Verstappen qualified to improve on this record by next Sunday’s championship in Italy.
In 13 races in the championship so far this season, Verstappen has won 11 races, while his teammate Sergio Perez has taken the crown in the other two.
Red Bull began a 14-match winning streak in the championship races at the Abu Dhabi race at the end of last season’s activities, and then made it 13 in a row this season.
Horner said: “It’s great to have 9 wins in a row with Vettel (in 2013). This is something I never thought would happen again; So it’s pretty special that Max Verstappen is repeating it now.
He explained: What impressed us most about the Dutch race was that you see this pressure Verstappen endured in front of the expectations of 100,000 Dutch fans here, and the Dutch driver overcame this pressure on his way to the podium. Historical record.
