DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Alaa Mubarak, the son of late Egyptian President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak, has followed Danish authorities’ decision to ban burning and desecrating copies of the Noble Qur’an. Condemnation and criticism from across the Arab and Islamic world, amid links between activists.

Alaa Mubarak, on the “X” site, previously said through his official account on Twitter: “Finally, the Minister of Justice of Denmark announced that his country will present a draft law prohibiting the desecration and inappropriate treatment of the Holy Quran. Of great religious importance.”

The son of the late Egyptian president added about the Danish justice minister: “He said public burning of religious books should be punishable by two years in prison.”

The Danish government on Friday proposed a law banning the burning of copies of the Holy Quran, following a recent wave of protests that included the burning of copies of the Muslim holy book.

Danish Justice Minister Peter Hommelgaard Thomsen told a news conference in Copenhagen on Friday that the government would introduce a bill that would ban the “mishandling” of objects of “religious significance”.
