Although insomnia is widespread, it is not always clear what causes it.
A health report published by “Harvard Health” titled Improving Sleep lists 6 health problems that make it more difficult to sleep:
Diabetics
- Diabetes is a serious disease, but many people live with the condition without knowing it because the symptoms can be subtle.
- According to the report, people with diabetes may experience problems that make it more difficult to sleep.
- These problems include night sweats and frequent urination.
Congested heart
- Heart failure occurs when the heart cannot pump blood properly.
- It mostly affects the elderly, but it can also affect young people in some cases.
- A condition that develops gradually and causes fluid to build up around the lungs.
- As a result, sufferers may experience shortness of breath at night.
- Harvard University scientists recommend using pillows to elevate the upper body.
- The main symptoms of heart failure include shortness of breath, fatigue, fainting and ankle swelling.
- Symptoms may develop quickly or gradually over weeks or months.
Arthritis
- Medications used to treat gout often cause insomnia.
- If you suffer from arthritis and sleep problems, your doctor may recommend taking aspirin or an anti-inflammatory before bed to reduce pain and inflammation.
Nocturnal urination
- Excessive need to urinate at night.
- The condition wakes a person up at least twice a night, but in severe cases, the person may wake up 5 or 6 times.
Thyroid disease
- An overactive thyroid gland can cause sleep disorders.
