YouTube is testing new features all the time, and while some of these never see the light of day, a good number of them eventually make it to the public. Innovations in visitor experience are part of the latter category, so sooner or later everyone will benefit from its benefits.
A new viewer experience based on a viewing history system that aims to provide YouTube users with accurate video recommendations based on their viewing habits.
Also, starting today, YouTube announced that users of the app who have turned off their watch history and don’t have significant previous watch history will have all features that require watch history to make video recommendations, including the main YouTube feed.
If you belong to that category, don’t worry if your YouTube homepage feed suddenly goes blank after this update. But what exactly does that mean for those who have disabled their tracking history? First, the recommendations will certainly look very different without any recommended videos. However, it will allow you to search more easily using the search bar and right-hand directory menu, browse shared channels, and explore topics tabs.
If your viewing history is not disabled or you have sufficient prior viewing history, these changes will not affect you.
YouTube says these changes will roll out slowly over the next few months. The new viewer experience clarifies YouTube features that rely on viewing history to provide video recommendations and streamlines it for users who prefer to search for their own content instead of making recommendations.
