Egyptian international midfielder Marawan Attiyah withdrew from the Al-Ahly club camp this morning, Thursday, July 13, after learning of his father’s death, leaving his team’s squad for the top-of-the-table Egyptian league match against Zamalek. It will be held this evening at the Cairo International Stadium.
Al-Ahly Club management hastened to express their condolences to the player and his family through an official statement posted on the club’s official channels on social media.
In the statement, “Al-Ahly Club expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Marwan Attia’s father. The club’s president, Mahmoud Al-Khatib, and members of the board of directors express their deepest condolences to the player. The first team, on the death of his missing father, who, God willing, passed away today, prays to the Almighty that the deceased rest in the grace of His mercy.
Marwan Attia received condolences from his colleagues on social media, and Al-Ahli Defense Committee Chairman Rami Rabia wrote on his official Instagram account, “Life and eternity belong to God. Marwan Attia’s father passed away by God’s mercy, your prayers for him.”

Marawan Attia, 24, joined Al-Ahly from Al-Ittihad Club of Alexandria in last winter’s transfer window and has quickly established himself as a key player in Swiss coach Marcel Koehler’s squad.
Marawan Attia has made 14 appearances for Al-Ahly in the local league since January 21 last, and made a 90-minute appearance against Brazilian side Flamengo in the third-place match at the Club World Cup.
He received his first call-up to play with the Egyptian national team in March and made 4 minutes of his participation against Malawi in the African Cup of Nations qualifier before playing 90 minutes against Guinea Conakry in the fifth round.
