England midfielder Mason Mount said goodbye to Chelsea fans in a video he posted on social media on Tuesday, confirming his departure from the London club amid speculation he is set to join local rivals Manchester United.

The Athletic website reported that United had agreed a five-year deal to sign Mount for 55 million pounds ($69.93 million), plus five million in bonuses.

“Based on the speculation over the last six months, it won’t come as a surprise to you, but it won’t be easy to tell you that I have made the decision to leave Chelsea,” Mount said in the video. .

“I felt you deserved more than a written statement, so I wanted to be direct about my gratitude for your support over the past 18 years.”

And he continued, I know some of you are not happy with my decision, but this is the right decision for me at this point in my life.

The 24-year-old made his Chelsea debut in 2017 and has since scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists in 195 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Mount continued, “I joined Chelsea when I was six and we had many moments together.

Winning the Youth Cup, Player of the Year awards, Super Cup, Club World Cup and Champions League was an unforgettable night.
