Russia conducts air exercises over the Baltic Sea and its warships enter the Philippine Sea

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that it was conducting tactical exercises with warplanes in the Baltic Sea, where a battalion of ships from the Russian Pacific Fleet entered to test “readiness to conduct combat operations and special operations”. The southern parts of the Philippine Sea “to carry out operations within the framework of a long sea route.” period”.

“Su-27 (fighter jet) crews of the Baltic Fleet launched air-to-air weapons at cruise missiles and simulated enemy aircraft,” the ministry said in a telegram.

According to Reuters, he added, “The main objective of the exercise is to test the aircrew’s readiness to perform combat and special missions.”

In addition to improving capabilities, the ministry said fighter jet crews are carrying out “round-the-clock combat operations” to protect Kaliningrad’s airspace.

On the other hand, Russian news agency Interfax reported that a battalion of ships from the Russian Pacific Fleet entered the southern parts of the Philippine Sea to carry out tasks within the framework of a long-distance maritime corridor.

On Tuesday, the agency cited the Navy’s news service as saying that the groups would conduct maneuvers in the Asia-Pacific region “while exhibiting a naval presence” and “within the framework of strengthening partnership.”

There are no details on how many ships are involved.

Russia has been beefing up its defenses in its vast eastern territories bordering the Asia-Pacific region, as it accuses the US of bolstering its presence there and raising security concerns in Japan and across the region.
