Spotify is testing a new feature that will make it easier to listen to songs when you’re not connected to the internet. Called “Your Offline Mix,” the playlist “saves a mix of songs you’ve played recently. The weather is great, but your connection is down.” According to screenshots shared by Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, it shows about three half-hour playlists. Ek didn’t share a timeline for when the feature will become more widespread, but since he’s been publicly tweeting about testing, it’s not too far off.

The app already allows users to download playlists or albums for offline listening, which is a useful feature for saving data when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi or doing anything from traveling on a plane to turning off the internet altogether. To take the subway. , but selecting music to download can be an annoying manual process, especially if you like to flip through a variety of music.

YouTube Music has had a similar feature called Offline Mixtape for years, and Spotify seems to have been working on an offline mixtape feature since at least mid-2020, as discovered by app researcher Jane Manchun Wong (via TechCrunch ). Said: Why did this service take so long to launch? But if I had to guess, I think it became less important when the Covid pandemic reduced the time many people spent on and off Wi-Fi.”

It sounds like a nice feature when your own offline mix comes out, but in the meantime, if you’re struggling to choose which playlists to download for offline listening, I recommend downloading the “Your Greatest Hits” playlist that was created. With your last year’s Spotify, you may not have your latest listening woes, but at least you’ll have a good starting point when your internet fails.
