Emirates News Agency – Electric vehicle market in UAE to grow 27% annually until 2027

ABU DHABI, 31st May, 2020 (WAM) — Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Electric Vehicles Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi, Eng. Nasser Al-Bahri said the electric vehicle market is growing rapidly in the UAE. It is a result of the country’s efforts to provide improved infrastructure and electric charging stations and encourage the move towards sustainable transport.

In a statement to Emirates News Agency WAM, Al-Bahri added that the UAE electric vehicle market will register an annual growth of 27.2% in the period from 2023 to 2027, reaching 15,000 vehicles by 2027.

Al-Bahri noted that the UAE has ambitious plans and quality initiatives to encourage community members to switch to electric vehicles.

He said the UAE is keen to develop a sustainable transport sector, especially as the sector is one of the fastest growing sources of carbon emissions in the world, indicating that electric vehicles play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, consistent with the UAE. Commitment to invest in sustainable solutions and its strategic initiative for climate neutrality by 2050 and its willingness to host world leaders at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28).

The Electric Vehicle Exhibition and Convention, in its second edition, has succeeded in attracting global interest in the Middle East and North Africa region, a large and promising market that expects great growth and business opportunities in the coming years. To shed light on the needs and developments in the transition towards sustainable electric transport in the Middle East.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Abu Dhabi Electric Vehicles Exhibition and Conference brought together stakeholders from the exhibition vehicle industry, batteries and electric charging to discuss regulatory infrastructure and legislation. The conference features international speakers and presents the latest technology in the field.

The number of countries participating in this year’s edition of the exhibition has reached 30 countries, attracting many participations from national companies to present their latest innovations in the field of electric vehicles amid a wide participation of regional and international companies. The provision of services in the manufacturing sector or the transport sector is witnessing a significant increase.

Nasser Al-Bahri pointed out that in addition to hosting the “Technology Oasis”, the exhibition witnessed the introduction of the first electric vehicles and modern and advanced electric charging devices and units in land and sea transportation. The fair, which provided a platform for universities and entrepreneurs to showcase their latest innovations.

The number of electric and hybrid cars in the UAE is growing rapidly, evident in the taxi fleets now plying most of the emirate’s roads, at a time when the country is on the rise in private acquisition. Electric vehicles in recent years.
