BUENOS AIRES, May 29, WAM/ Tunisia, Slovakia and Uruguay on Monday completed qualification for the second round (round of 16) of the FIFA U-20 World Youth Championship. Morning (UAE Time).
The Tunisian national team booked their place in the second round despite a 1-0 defeat against Uruguay in the third and final round of Group E matches, as the Tunisian side qualified for the top 4 after finishing third in the first round. Placement in groups of six.
Uruguay increased their tally to 6 points, finishing second, 3 points ahead of their Tunisian opponents, and the two teams qualified for the Round of 16 together.
England had already qualified for the round of 16 from this group prior to this round of matches, and the team secured top spot in the group after a goalless draw with Iraq in the third round. The Iraqi team earned its first point of the tournament, but officially bid farewell to this edition of the Youth World Cup.
In Group Six, Gambia took the lead in a goalless draw with South Korea, with both teams officially qualified for the second round ahead of this round’s matches.
The Gambian side took their tally to 7 points, two points clear of South Korea, while a 3-1 win over Honduras in the other group game gave France their first three points. Honduras finished third, two points behind, but both teams in the so-called competition are officially from the first round.
The Slovak national team, which finished third in Group B with 3 points, benefited from the results of the remaining groups, and qualified for the round of 16.
