ABU DHABI, 14th April, 2020 (WAM) — Al Ain and Sharjah qualified for the final after defeating Al Wasl and Ajman in the semi-finals of the President’s Cup.
In the second leg of the semi-final at the Hasa Bin Zayed Stadium this evening, Al Ain defeated their guests Al Wasl by one goal without reply to book their place. It ended in a goalless draw at the Zabeel Stadium.
Erik Jurgens scored in the 24th minute of the game.
And the hosts maintained their progress despite the numerical deficit they suffered from the 29th minute of the first half, as a result of the dismissal of their goalkeeper Khalid Issa.
Before the end of the game, Al Wasl defender Jamal Balamri received a red card, Q86, for disputing an Al Ain goal, before video referee technology intervened and disallowed the goal.
In the second match, defending champions Sharjah qualified for the final after a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the semi-final at the Rashid Bin Zayed Stadium after extra time. In two parts.
Ajman were 1-0 up at the original time of the game, meaning the two teams were tied 2-2, with Sharjah winning 2-1 in the first leg.
George Zanini equalized for Sharjah in the 109th minute of the second extra half, and Ajman’s defender Abdullah Saleh received a second caution and a red card in the 118th minute, so the match ended in a 1–1 draw. Sharjah qualified for the final to meet Al Ain.
