Infantino will be re-elected as FIFA president until 2027

Gianni Infantino, the Swiss-Italian, was re-elected as the president of the International Football Associations (FIFA) until 2027, as there were no candidates against him during the confederation’s General Assembly in Kigali today. The 52-year-old lawyer will therefore lead soccer’s global governing body for a third term, as he did four years ago, after succeeding his compatriot Sepp Blatter in 2016.

In front of 211 delegates from member unions, Infantino said in the Rwandan capital, where the voting system did not record the number of dissenting votes, “I love all of you.”
Also, if federal law ends at three terms of four years each, Infantino would have stayed until 2031, announcing in mid-December that he was still “in his first term.” (2016-2019) not completed.

Born on March 23, 1970 in Brig, Switzerland and married to Lebanese Lina Al-Ashkar, Infantino was the Secretary General of the International Center for Sports Studies and worked as a consultant to several sports organizations in Italy, Spain and Switzerland. Work with the European Union in August 2000 in the Department of Legal and Commercial Affairs.
He served as Head of the Legal Affairs Department from 2004 to 2007, then as Acting Secretary General with oversight of the Legal Affairs Department (2007–2009), and finally as Secretary General from October 2009 when Platini was President.
