American director Quentin Tarantino appears to have finished writing his tenth film, which will be the last of his career, sources told the exclusive Hollywood Reporter website on Tuesday.
According to the same sources, the film will be titled “The Movie Critic” and Tarantino will begin shooting next fall.
There are no clear and concrete details about the film, but The Hollywood Reporter sources have revealed that it will be set in Los Angeles during the seventies and will feature a female lead.
The film may have been inspired by the life of one of the most influential film critics of all time, Pauline Keel. Kiel (1919-2001) was not only a film critic but also a writer and novelist. He became famous for his conflicts with editors and film directors. In the late 1970s, he briefly worked as a consultant at Paramount Studios.
The company to produce Tarantino’s new film has yet to be decided, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is the most likely to win it. Sony distributed Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019. The film was nominated for 10 Oscars, winning two of them, and grossed $377 million at the box office worldwide.
Tarantino has previously said that he does not intend to direct more than 10 films and that he plans to retire when he turns 60. The author and writer has released 9 films so far (counting the two parts of Kill Bill together), and this month is his 60th birthday.
