Abu Dhabi Police reviews efforts of “Police Follow-up Department” in “Our Nation Amanah” project

Abu Dhabi Police reviewed its services to the community through the Police Follow-up and Aftercare Department’s efforts and alternative penalties, including the electronic monitoring system, transit points programs and community service activities, in the program “Our Country Amanah” broadcast on Abu Dhabi FM radio.

Colonel Ahmed Juma Al Khaili, Director of the Follow-up and Aftercare Department, explained that to monitor offenders in police stations and ensure people’s commitment to the implementation of community sentences. To positively integrate released prisoners, juveniles and their families into society through rehabilitation programs and community initiatives, if necessary.

Since its inception in 2017, the department has focused on supporting Abu Dhabi Police’s strategic priorities by increasing community satisfaction and confidence, preventing crime and creating an appropriate environment for offenders, offenders and parolees. Lt. Col. Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Al Shehi from the Police Surveillance and Post-Maintenance Department spoke about the electronic surveillance system, which is implemented by implementing judicial judgments through electronic backup, and which reflects contemporary and modern technology. Trends in the UAE, one of the first countries to implement electronic surveillance, saw the department receive best practices in 2019 to implement modern practice at the Arab and international level within the centenary of Abu Dhabi Police.

He pointed out that the application process starts from obtaining a judicial decision, verifying the case, opening an electronic file and then installing an electronic bracelet in the case of electronic monitoring until the end of the sentence assessed by the judicial department.

Lieutenant-Colonel Nahyan Mohammed Al Muhairi of the Traffic Points Program Division of the Police Surveillance and Aftercare Department explained that the main purpose of providing traffic points programs is to promote drivers, traffic culture and evaluate the behavior of violators. Through the Central Traffic and Transportation Act several services are provided to the public in several languages: scheme to reduce traffic points from 8 to 23 points, scheme to revoke driving license with 24 points and above, scheme for heavy vehicle drivers, and scheme for mentally challenged, deaf and hard of hearing category. Programs are offered in Arabic, English, Urdu and Sign Language.

Major Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al-Shibli, from the Department of Community Activities in the Police Follow-up and Aftercare Department, said community service activities are an alternative to imprisonment, and by law, the offender is obliged to perform one of the community services. The work referred to by the decision of the Honorable Council of Ministers will then be coordinated with the relevant authorities through the decision of the Head of Judiciary as per the emirate and is considered as an alternative to imprisonment for misdemeanors not exceeding 6 months. and in which a sentence is passed, which may not exceed 6 months or a fine, and the period of community service may not exceed 3 months.
