Russia destroys large warehouse of Western missiles in Ukraine

Russian forces fired missiles to destroy a large warehouse of American and European weapons in the Ternobil region of western Ukraine, while fierce street fighting is raging in the eastern Ukrainian city of Chevroletonetsk, while a former British soldier is killed fighting in the east. According to the Interfax News Agency, the city of Severodonetsk.
“Caliper missiles were launched from the sea (…) near Sortkov, destroying a large number of anti-tank missile systems, human-portable air defense systems and a large arsenal of missiles supplied to Kiev by the United States and European countries.” The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian military has not yet announced a date for the strike, but local Ukrainian authorities in the western part of the country announced on Saturday evening that at least 22 people, including civilians, had been injured and that the military base had been damaged.
In the east, Ukrainian civil servants announced on Sunday morning that Russian forces were conducting “undefeated” attacks on Severodonetsk, with Ukrainian troops chasing Russian troops near Vrobivka, Mykolaivka and Vasevka.
And Chevroletonetsk’s control of Moscow would pave the way for another large city, Gramadorsk, in the Donbass Basin, which is largely Russian-speaking and Russia wants complete control. Pro-Russian separatists have been controlling parts of the minefield since 2014.
Yesterday, Russian forces demolished the bridge connecting the Ukrainian city of Severdonetsk, local officials said. Luhansk Governor Serhiy Gaidai said there had been heavy fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces in the streets of Severodonetsk on Sunday. Russian forces have occupied most of the city, but Ukrainian forces still control an industrial area and a chemical factory, and hundreds of civilians are locked up in hideouts.
Kaitoi said the Russians had destroyed the bridge over the Chevrolet Donetsk River, which connects the city of Chevrolet Donetsk with its twin city of Lyczynsk. This means that only one of the three bridges remains, reducing the number of routes used to evacuate civilians or to deploy Ukrainian forces along the river.
The head of the Severdonetsk administration said that more than a third of the city was still under the control of Ukrainian forces and that the Russians controlled two-thirds of the city. “Our forces are firmly on the defensive line,” Oleksandr Stryuk told Ukrainian television.
