On Thursday, Google, Apple and Microsoft announced a joint effort to support password-free login on all mobile, desktop and browser platforms they control, starting this year. Next 2023.

The announcement of the three American companies coincided with the celebration of World Password Day, which falls on May 5 each year, according to “Sputnik”.

In addition to the Windows and Mac OS desktops, password-free authentication will reach all major hardware sites such as Android and iOS mobile operating systems, Google Chrome, Edge and Safari web browsers in the not-too-distant future. Circumstances, according to The Verge.

An alternative to accessing all of those sites would be a standard called Fido, which uses public-key encryption policies to enable password-free, multi-factor authentication in a variety of contexts.

Google explained in a post on Thursday that the password-free login process will allow users to choose their phone as the primary authentication tool for applications, websites and other digital services.

The goal of a joint venture between Google, Microsoft and Apple is to allow “end-to-end” password-free login to apps and websites. Users should only use biometric scans (such as the face or finger), or the device PIN to log in with each step.

All three companies believe that these efforts will prevent successful phishing attacks, which trick users into sharing passwords with hackers and fraudsters.
