NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warned on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had not given up his desire to control the whole of Ukraine and predicted that “months and years” of war would continue.

“We have to be realistic. The war can go on for months, even months, so we have to be prepared for the long haul in supporting Ukraine, maintaining sanctions and strengthening our security.” Stoltenberg said before a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.

“We do not see any sign of Putin changing his mind by capturing the whole of Ukraine,” he added.

Following the NATO meeting, a meeting of the seven groups is scheduled to take place at NATO headquarters in the presence of Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi. Tightening sanctions on Russia will be a major topic on the agenda of the meeting.

Stoltenberg explained that “Ukraine urgently needs military support, which is why it is important for NATO allies to continue to support Ukraine with a wide range of military equipment, whether heavy equipment or light weapons systems. A” real effect. “

“Whenever the war ends, it will have long-term consequences for our security. We have seen barbarism. We have seen President Putin ready to use military force to achieve his goals. It changes the reality of Europe’s security for many years,” he added.

“We have asked the military leaders to present their options to the political leaders so that they can make decisions to restore the security and defense capabilities of the coalition,” he said.
