Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zhelensky’s position on the talks with Russia indicates that he does not understand the reality of the situation in his country.

Lukashenko, quoted by “Russia Today”, said he had tried to contact Zhelensky to hold talks with the Russian side in the Belarusian city of Komal, but that Zhelensky had not initially turned down the offer.

He added, “We tried to reveal Gelensky’s location all night, and when we found him in the morning, his answer was: Maybe we’re talking … and I can now openly say that he does not really realize the situation.”

And he continued, “Well, if the Ukrainians refuse to come to Komal, it is their choice. This is what happened. How can we talk to them after they made their promise yesterday?”

He continued, “Do you think Zhelensky made this decision? No! He uttered it. They would not allow it. But it was their choice, it was very unfortunate.”

Zhelensky declared that Belarus was not suitable as a base for negotiations with Moscow because of the “hostile actions” issued by Minsk. At the same time, he stressed Kiev’s openness to dialogue with Moscow in the capitals of countries that are not hostile to Ukraine.
